Be Quarantine Prepared - Where to Put Your Parents
A light-hearted series
Option 1 - Make a "Gar-Room"
Turn your garage into functional living space! This is a current project of ours, amazing what you can turn a space, that seems like it was only meant for storage, into!
Option 2 - Utilize Your Master Suite
The master suite is often the only room with an en-suite bathroom, so if you really love them, this is a great place to make into your family quarantine room.
Option 3 - Put Them In The Pool House
If you’re lucky enough to have a pool with a pool house, this would be a great place to convert into a livable space. Similar to a “Gar-Room”, it has great potential and not to mention a waterfront view!
Option 4 - Build an In-Law Apartment
In-law apartments have become one of the most common home additions we design. Now more then ever, families are choosing to bring their parents close to home for a safer and more economical option than nursing homes or assisted living facilities. The in-law suite adds value to your home and keeps your family finances in the family.
Option 5 - First Floor Master Suite
Every “Forever” dream home we design has a First Floor master suite. It is popular for families of all ages to have a bedroom on the first floor, and it’s great for re-sale, too.
Option 6 - Rent a House or Apartment Nearby
If creating extra space in your home just wont work, there is always the option of finding an affordable home or apartment to rent that is nearby so you’re still able to assist with groceries and care.
Option 7 - Updated Your Finished Basement
You can create a space in your finished basement that includes a sleeping area and living area. In-law suites aren’t just for In-laws either, with college students moving back in with their parents more often now, it’s a great space for them to utilize as well. Adding an In-Law or Post-Graduate suite also will add value to your home should you sell.
Option 8 - Repurpose a 1st Floor Room
You can create a dedicated room on the first floor that has a door for privacy and easy access to the 1st floor bathroom. An extra living room that doesn’t get much use is a great option!
Option 9 - Build a Tiny House on Your Property
Deigned by our Architectural Designer Paul! Tiny houses are very popular right now and they make a good investment because you can sell it when no longer need it. You may have a hard time convincing your parents to move into such a modern lifestyle, but it could be fun for you to live there instead!
Option 10 - Park a Camper in Your Driveway
Renting a camper is another great way to keep someone nearby in a safe space for a short period of time. . . Plus you can take it on a vacation if you need a change of scenery!
